about

1. Fool On The Hill.
First seen in The Magical Mystery Tour film on Boxing Day December 26 1967 and perceived as a fail, its always had a fascinating mournful yet peaceful beauty to me.
Recorded with the masterful Alberto Marsico on Hammond organ, Enzo Zirilli on drums, and Quentin Collins on flugelhorn

2. Three Little Birds
An acoustic twist on Bob's classic, affirming that every little thing's gonna be alright...

3. Change Is Gonna Come.
Written the year I was born, released the year after, and sadly still as relevant as ever.
The poignant yet inspiring description of the suffering and the brutality of human experience tempered with a deep knowing that we can ascend such a painful existence both individually and as a race.

4. All Night Long.
My take on this classic, more a homage than a reinterpretation but imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!

5. Getting To Know You.
A strum-along take on the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic from The King And I.
I wanted to turn the sense away from the cuteness of the original and towards the deepening closeness of a relationship and the strength and safety that brings.

6. Blackbird.
John Cohens beautiful arrangement brought such richness to this timeless classic that I felt I had to record it and I love how its still familiar yet new in its harmony and revives the inspiration and hope this song has always given me.

7. In The Air Tonight.
More mood than story but still such a powerful song so I thought the smallness and intimacy of the ukulele would be an interesting juxtaposition…hard to resist the drum fill though!

8. I Can Let Go Now.
This achingly beautiful song by the great Michael McDonald isn’t widely known but has such a perfect visceral description of acceptance both bitter and sweet.

9. Across The Universe.
Some classics are best left alone but Alberto Marsico’s mystical harmonic re-imagining of this great led to a one-take, late night recording which I feel dives to the depths of this piece of musical poetry.

10. Some Enchanted Evening
I found this spaced-out, almost mournful approach gave this Rodgers & Hammerstein creation a darker more wistful tinge and created an air of longing and wisdom that touched me.

11. Whistle A Happy Tune.
This song fascinated me as its original has such a jaunty flavor yet the lyric is describing a coping mechanism to manage fragility and fear so I felt a darker more driving feel would support and amplify that aspect of the song more.

12. Oh what A Beautiful Morning.
When asked to do a version of this classic for a commercial, I couldn’t find another angle as it is so uplifting however you play it so I drew on my early years playing with many African bands and musicians in London and this is the result.
